The
The development of the Patriot Foundation began in 1998, when School Board Member Mike Heuberger attended a school Foundation workshop at the Minnesota School Board Association winter conference.  The School Board then encouraged Superintendent Jim Oraskovich to begin developing a 501(c)(3) school foundation.  After the preparation of Articles and By-laws, the tax exempt status was approved by the IRS.  The Foundation began operation in 1999.  A Board of Directors was appointed to help manage activities.  Foundation funds came primarily from donations from the Crosslake Lions Club, Central Lakes Rotary Club and individual gifts.

In 2006, a new Board of Directors updated the By-laws, clarified the mission statement, and streamlined funding requests from school staff.  Fundraising slowed and requests for funds increased with the downturn of the economy.  The Foundation Board added a new approach to fundraising by organizing a couple Foundation events per year.  These events have helped meet the funding requests for the past few years.  Today the Foundation structure has provided many opportunities for students that the school budget could not support.
